Unique Footage of the Soviet ZAZ "Sport 900" Coupe Has Emerged: Preserved to This Day

Only Six of These Cars Were Ever Produced

Rare photographs of the Soviet ZAZ "Sport 900" coupe have appeared online. The number in the name indicated the engine capacity - 900 cubic centimeters. The rear of the car had the same air-cooled engine from the ZAZ-965, as well as the chassis borrowed from it.

Only six copies were produced, and all of them remained in the hands of project participants from the Scientific Automotive Moscow Institute (NAMI). Where they are now is unknown.

The "Sport-900" coupe was developed at NAMI in 1963. The car was built on ZAZ-965 units, the power cage is made of pipes, and the body itself is made of fiberglass panels. As a result, the weight of the "Zaporozhets" is about 500 kg, the length is 3725 mm and the height is 1170 mm.

The "Sport-900" is equipped with a standard 27 hp engine and a four-speed manual transmission, which was enough to reach speeds of over 100 km/h. The interior was taken from a production model, but modified - in particular, a sloping center console appeared.
