At St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU) and the Institute of Problems of Mechanical Engineering (IPMash) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, formulas were derived for more accurate adjustment of navigation devices.
Experts have determined the conditions for the coincidence of the stability parameter of phase-locked loop systems. These systems play an important role in modern electronic devices — from GPS navigators and smartphones to satellite communication devices and medical equipment. Their task is to synchronize the frequency and phase of the signal arriving at the device and the signal generated directly on the device.
The navigator receives signals from the satellite with a slight delay, and an error of even one microsecond can lead to a location error of 300 meters. When automatic systems adjust the navigator's frequency to the satellite's frequency, the delay disappears, and the location is determined accurately.
The study will improve synchronization systems in several key areas — in satellite navigation (GPS, GLONASS), in 5G/6G mobile communication systems, and in the synchronization of autonomous vehicle sensors.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the navigation system for the Vostok UAV was created at ITMO.
