A unique educational and laboratory class for industrial automation has started operating at Petrozavodsk State University (PetrSU). This is the first center in Russia where students will learn to create automated systems for production based on domestic technologies.
The new class was created by the National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute" with the support of the government of Karelia. Modern equipment will allow training specialists capable of developing software and creating devices for automating industrial processes.
We must not depend on Western software products! Therefore, the PetrSU and Kurchatov NRIIAS project is a serious step towards strengthening the country's technological sovereignty.
The programmable logic controllers installed in the class are a kind of "brain" for industrial machines. They help to manage production processes without human intervention. For example, such a controller can automatically turn the conveyor on and off, control the temperature in the furnace, or monitor the pressure in the pipes.
Training in the new class is conducted within the framework of the federal project "Training Personnel and the Scientific Foundation for the Electronic Industry." Graduates will receive relevant practical skills and will be in demand in the labor market. Regional authorities promised to continue supporting such projects for the development of high-tech industry in Karelia.
