Russia's leadership in the use of nuclear power plants in space needs to be increased. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting on the development of space activities, which is taking place at the Bauman Moscow State Technical University.
According to him, nuclear power plants created by Soviet scientists were already operating in orbit.
And at the present stage, taking into account advanced materials, new technologies for the implementation of such complex projects, qualitatively different, fundamentally new, great opportunities are opening up.
The head of state stressed that Russia's unconditional leadership in this area needs to be further increased.
In addition, Putin announced the imminent approval of a new national project in the space sector.
The new national project will be approved in the very near future. In order to ensure its full funding as part of the preparation of the federal budget for 2026 and subsequent years until 2028.
The President added that the new national project is designed to cover all the most important areas for Russia — from the creation of its own multi-satellite constellations for various purposes and a national orbital station to programs for exploring deep space.
