Global diamond industry leader Alrosa has completed the cutting of the largest diamond in Russian history. The precious stone, with a rich honey-golden color and weighing over 200 carats, has been named "New Sun." The super-large diamond was mined by Alrosa at the Arctic placer deposit of the Ebelakh River in Yakutia.
The natural mineral lay in the earth's interior for about 1 billion years. During this time, it managed to see the sunlight and experience the cold of glaciers and northern rivers. Due to its shape, quality, and color, associated with the radiance of the sun, the diamond was decided to be named "Dawn." And the diamond that was created on its basis was named in honor of the birth of a new bright star in the Alrosa constellation.
"New Sun" is one of the most significant events in the gemstone industry in recent years, emphasizing Russia's high status in the global diamond industry.
The diamond cutting process took over 2 years and was carried out by fifteen of the best craftsmen with over 30 years of experience. The specialists followed the principles of the Russian school of gemstone cutting, Russian Cut, and created a masterpiece - each facet of the "New Sun" is calibrated with jewelry precision. The perfect balance between light, color, and play of shades has been found.
