Спутниковая система интернета вещей «Марафон-IoT» сможет управлять беспилотниками

The system will be able to operate in difficult conditions and provide communication in remote areas

Developers at the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) are working on modernizing the low-orbit satellite system "Marathon-IoT". This project, developed within the framework of the federal program "Sphere", will become an alternative to mobile communications and fiber optics for the Internet of Things, especially in remote regions.

Thanks to the update, "Marathon-IoT" can be used not only for IoT, but also for controlling drones, communicating with aircraft, telemetry, radar and remote sensing of the Earth. MAI is currently developing an interface protocol and an interface unit that will allow installing various target equipment on satellites.

The system will consist of more than 250 satellites weighing up to 50 kg, located in 12 orbital planes at an altitude of about 750 km. Unlike CubeSat satellites, which are limited in energy efficiency, Marathon-IoT satellites will be able to work with more complex scientific equipment.
