According to the press service of AvtoVAZ, 28,699 Lada passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold in Russia in March. The result was 7.4% higher than in the previous month, but sales fell by 33% compared to March 2024. According to the company's own data, the Russian car market as a whole fell by 44.4% in March.
The head of AvtoVAZ, Maxim Sokolov, described the decline in car sales in March as significant. He also noted that these data are consistent with the company's forecast for a decline in sales in the first quarter of 2025.
The dramatic market decline in March and the results of the first quarter confirm our last year's forecast of a significant reduction in the Russian car market in 2025, which is negatively affected by the high key rate, tightening requirements for borrowers and general lending conditions from the Central Bank, as well as almost half a million stocks of foreign brand cars imported in 2024, which leads to unprecedented unjustified dumping, and other unfavorable factors.
At the same time, the company noted that in the context of a decline in the Russian car market by almost a quarter over the same period (–24.8%), Lada has been showing more positive sales results for the second month in a row (–16.8%), increasing its market share to 28.7%.
In total, 76,217 Lada cars were sold in the first quarter of 2025. In March, the Lada Granta model became the sales leader. Compared to the previous month, sales increased by 22.5% and amounted to 11,767 cars. 29,705 "Grants" were sold in Russia during the quarter.
Lada Vesta sold 7,111 units in March. During the three months of 2025, 21,906 vehicles of the Vesta family were sold. Lada Largus demonstrated stable sales performance: 1,947 passenger cars and 918 vans were sold in March. In total, 7,136 cars of this model were sold in the first quarter.
Sales of Lada Niva Legend in March amounted to 2,955 units (+12.7% compared to February). In the first quarter, 7,451 classic SUVs were sold. Sales of Lada Niva Travel in March increased by 34.3% compared to the previous month and amounted to 3,397 cars. In three months, 8,423 cars were sold.
In March, sales of Lada light commercial vehicles increased by 12.7% compared to the previous month. Official representatives of the brand sold 1,470 cars.
