The Chinese company Guangzhou Automobile (Group) plans to start assembling its cars in Russia. The choice of site has already begun. This was announced by Pavel Nikiforov, a representative of GAC Motor Russia.
GAC is negotiating with a number of local manufacturers and is in the discussion stage of the site. I can’t say about the timing, but the Russian market is a priority for GAC, last year it became the leader in sales volume among markets outside of China. All resources, interests and priorities are aligned in favor of the Russian market.
The flagship crossover GAC GS8 is in great demand among Russians. The GS4 model is also of interest to the Russian market. There is a possibility that its assembly will be established in Russia first.
Earlier www1.ru reported that GAC may start assembling at the former Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg.
