The Russian Ministry of Defense now has a Chinese successor to the GAZ-69 all-terrain vehicle. A BAW 212 car with black license plates belonging to the North Caucasus Military District has been shown online.
The car is a development of the GAZ-69 and UAZ-69 projects. The all-terrain vehicle has been assembled in China since the 1960s, with designers from the Middle Kingdom relying on Soviet engineering solutions.
The BAW 212 is still produced in China, although the model is outdated. It features solid axles at the front and rear. The body is on a frame, and the basic comfort options include a heater and a radio.
The Soviet GAZ-21 engine has been replaced by a 2.4-liter Mitsubishi gasoline "turbo four" with 211 hp. The torque is transmitted through a 6-speed manual transmission. It has part-time all-wheel drive with a low range. There is an anti-lock braking system and fog lights, and options include air conditioning and power steering.
