First tests will be conducted in the fall of 2025

The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) is developing a satellite communication terminal for remote regions of Russia and mobile transport. This is reported by the university's press service.

Currently, scientists are in the process of developing terminal models that will demonstrate the main characteristics of the system. The first tests are scheduled for the fall of 2025.

The new terminal will provide access to high-quality mobile communication and the Internet on moving objects (cars, sea vessels, and drones).

The development focuses on satellites in medium orbits, which require complex antenna control. For this purpose, the institute has created multi-beam phased antenna arrays that allow adjusting the beams of the ground communication terminal.

The second task is to ensure that there are many beams directed at the satellite, and that they have time to connect to the next spacecraft each time. Therefore, we are developing a system that allows seamless switching between satellites without actual loss of communication for the user.

The tests will be conducted in a special anechoic chamber operating in the Ku- and Ka-frequency bands.
