New aluminum shell technology developed at Siberian Federal University

The method allows creating parts of the same thickness without technical defects

A new method for producing high-quality aluminum shells for use in various industries has been invented at the Siberian Federal University (SFU). This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

Traditional sheet stamping methods face problems in the manufacture of such parts - irregularities (bulges and corrugations) are formed during the drawing process. It is also difficult to ensure uniform thickness of the part while maintaining its properties and weight.

This method ensures that parts of the same thickness are obtained during subsequent drawing and calibration, and that there are no technical defects. At the same time, there is no need to use expensive and complex equipment.

The scientists proposed to increase the surface area of the workpiece before drawing by local deformation.

The use of the developed die designs will allow the proposed technology for manufacturing thin-walled stamped hemispherical shells from sheets of aluminum-magnesium alloys, economically alloyed with scandium, and thereby significantly improve the technical and economic indicators in the production of such products.

The new shells will be relevant for the aerospace industry, where high demands are placed on the reliability of aircraft.

Earlier www1.ru reported that in Moscow they created an aluminum alloy for electrical systems.
