Australian Officials Banned from Using Kaspersky Lab Software

The use of this software allegedly creates a risk to the security of government networks and data

Australia has joined the list of countries that have banned government officials from using software from the Russian company Kaspersky Lab. If the software has already been installed on official systems and devices, it must be removed by April 1, 2025.

According to Minister of Home Affairs Stephanie Foster, the use of this software "creates an unacceptable risk to the security of government networks and data associated with the threats of foreign interference, espionage and sabotage."

Kaspersky Lab is disappointed with the decision of the Australian Ministry of Home Affairs. A company representative noted that it was made in the context of the current geopolitical situation and was not supported by a technical assessment of the company's products.

The procedure required to substantiate the insecurity of the company's solutions was not carried out.

Earlier, Kaspersky Lab announced a preliminary version of its new next-generation firewall — Kaspersky NGFW. Unlike products from other Russian companies, Kaspersky NGFW offers its own advanced protection mechanisms based on innovative technologies.
