Russia is experiencing a significant overcapacity for the production of smartphones and tablets. Production lines are used only at 20% of their capabilities.
According to experts, the capacity is sufficient to produce up to 500 thousand devices per year. In 2023, only about 80-100 thousand devices were actually produced.
The main customers are government and private companies that require increased security standards, which stimulates demand for devices with domestic operating systems. In 2024, tablet sales in the consumer segment amounted to 61.7 billion rubles.
There are problems in the market, such as the insufficient development of the Russian OS ecosystem and the shortage of electronic components. Some companies, such as GS Group and Aquarius, have already increased production, but Russian factories are operating weakly at full capacity.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade predicts that the country can produce up to 1 million devices per year, but at the moment this forecast does not look optimistic.
