"Don't fall for sweet promises": Main rules for data protection on the Internet

Russians urged not to open suspicious links and files, even if they come from acquaintances

On International Safer Internet Day, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs reminded of simple rules that can help protect your data online. They were published in the Telegram channel of the official representative of the ministry, Irina Volk.

Russians were strongly asked to be vigilant on the Internet and not to open suspicious links and files, even if they come from acquaintances. Attackers often use stolen accounts to spread malicious software. Therefore, it is important to make sure that the antivirus on your device is always updated, and passwords reliably protect access to your accounts.

Don't fall for "sweet promises." Too attractive offers are the first sign of fraud. Whether it's free prizes, super-profitable discounts, or quick ways to make money – it can all be a trap. Always check information through official channels and don't rush to make a decision.

It is necessary to follow the news about cybercrimes and learn to recognize the schemes of fraudsters. Many attacks are repeated, and knowing their methods will help protect yourself and your loved ones.

Before entering your data on an unfamiliar site or sharing personal information, think about whether it is really necessary. Make sure that the site address, the presence of a security certificate (https://) and the reputation of the company inspire confidence.

Your prudence is the best protection against cyber threats!

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs told how to protect your smartphone from hacking and theft. First of all, it is recommended to disable the automatic password saving function in your browser. In popular browsers such as Chrome and Safari, passwords are stored without additional protection. Instead, you should use a password manager, such as Bitwarden, 1Password or KeePass.
