"Rostelecom" reported damage to an underwater cable in the Baltic Sea. According to the operator, the incident did not affect subscribers. Restoration work is already underway.
The Finnish Coast Guard previously stated that a Russian cable broke in the Finnish exclusive economic zone in the Gulf of Finland. A Russian vessel is currently repairing it. Finnish authorities did not specify who owns the damaged infrastructure but confirmed that restoration work was authorized.
The incident occurred against the backdrop of a series of recent damages to European underwater infrastructure in the Baltic Sea. In late January, a fiber optic cable between Latvia and Sweden was severed. The Norwegian vessel Silver Dania, detained on suspicion of involvement, was released due to lack of evidence.
