Specialists from the Krylov State Research Center and the R.E. Alekseev Central Design Bureau for Hydrofoil Ships have developed a new geometry propeller for Valdai 45R vessels (Project 23180). This design solution has increased the service life of the propulsion unit and reduced the cost of its repair during the inter-navigation period.
The press service of the R.E. Alekseev Central Design Bureau for Hydrofoil Ships explained that initially, Valdai 45R vessels were equipped with a wide-bladed propeller with six blades of a segment profile. However, after 400-500 hours of operation, cavitation erosion spots appeared on the pressure side of the blade.
Engineers proposed using a propeller with wedge-shaped blade sections and an interceptor on the trailing edge. This design is characterized by high propulsive qualities (the ability of the vessel to develop a given speed with minimal engine power).
About Valdai 45R vessels:
The single-deck river hydrofoil boat was put into operation in 2018. It is designed for high-speed passenger transportation in areas with a temperate climate.
Vessel characteristics:
- Length - 21.3 m
- Width - 5.2 m
- Height - 6.3 m
- Displacement - 21.4 t
- Speed - 65 km/h
- Passenger capacity - 45 people
