The Ural Diesel Engine Plant (UDMZ) is preparing to produce DM-185 diesel engines. This was announced by the technical director of the enterprise, Nikita Grigoriev.
A new workshop is currently being built for a conveyor line to produce the import-substituted DM-185 series.
Work on creating a serial model of the new generation DM-185 engine has been underway for several years. It will be presented in a power range from 700 to 3750 kW. The device will be used in various industries.
Inline 6-cylinder 6DM-185T models with a capacity of 930 kW will be used in TEM14M shunting locomotives, and V-shaped 16-cylinder 16DM-185T models with a capacity of 3745 kW — in the 2TE35A main line locomotive. The development of a gas piston version of the engine based on the DM-185 has also begun.
The key features of the new diesel engine will be reduced fuel and engine oil consumption, as well as a reduction in harmful emissions, corresponding to the Stage IIIA environmental level.
After all the tests, the DM-185 family engines show fuel savings compared to foreign counterparts with similar power characteristics. To achieve such indicators, the 12DM-185 diesel engine is equipped with a modern electronic control and monitoring system, gas turbine supercharging and intermediate charge air cooling.
In recent years, work has also been carried out to replace imported diesel components, which required a "rethinking" of the power plant.
More than 300 technical solutions have been implemented that allow us to continue working on the development of a modern Russian import-independent engine of a new series.
To date, the production of DM-185 is 99% localized in Russia. A number of components have been refined based on pilot operation on mining dump trucks.
It is worth noting that the Kolomna Plant is also developing a new generation 16LDG220 diesel engine for locomotives, which will receive support under the "Transport Engineering" program. This diesel engine is planned to be used in the 2TE30 main line locomotive, and its gas diesel version – in the 2TE30G locomotive with traction on liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Earlier www1.ru reported that new engines were developed for long-range aviation aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
