In major Russian cities with a population of over one million people, the number of stores selling pyrotechnic products has decreased by an average of 22% since the beginning of 2024. The exceptions were Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Omsk. This trend is explained by the problems faced by this segment. First, it was affected by the pandemic, and then by the ban on the use of pyrotechnics introduced in some regions.
Despite this, on the eve of the New Year holidays, demand for pyrotechnic products increased by 11% compared to last year, and the average check increased by 12%.
As of the beginning of December 2024, there are 3,710 retail outlets in Russia specializing in the sale of pyrotechnic products, as Kommersant was informed by Yandex Maps.
Service specialists drew attention to the fact that in large cities, with the exception of Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Omsk, the number of such stores has significantly decreased compared to last year. For example, in Voronezh their number decreased by 40%, in Novosibirsk by 33%, and in Kazan and Volgograd by 30%.
On the eve of the New Year holidays, Russians are actively buying salutes and fireworks. According to the Check Index service, in the period from December 1 to December 10, 2024, demand for pyrotechnic products in Russia increased by 11% compared to the same period last year. In Moscow, this figure increased by 7%. At the same time, there is an increase in prices for products.
From December 1 to December 10, 2024, the average check for the purchase of pyrotechnic goods increased by 12% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 1,370 rubles. In Moscow, this figure increased by 11% and reached 1,670 rubles.
The cost of fireworks, salutes and firecrackers mainly depends on the import component, which consists of the exchange rate.
The price of products was also affected by their expensive transportation. Previously, pyrotechnics were delivered from European countries, but now it is much more difficult. About 90% of pyrotechnics are imported into the country from China, and the rest are produced in Russia. These are mainly sparklers, crackers, ground fireworks and salutes.
