The Russian main battle tank T-80BVM with a gas turbine engine has an advantage over models with a diesel power plant. Unlike diesel tanks, which take 20-40 minutes to start in cold weather, the T-80 engine starts in no more than a minute in any weather.
The GTE can run on various types of fuel: diesel fuel, aviation kerosene, or low-octane gasoline.
The combustion chamber is located in the tank's GTE. The gas turbine engine is made in a block with a built-in step-down conical-cylindrical gearbox. In addition to the engine, the monoblock includes fuel filters, an air cleaner, dust removal fans and cooling systems, a starter, a generator, oil tanks, transmission and engine radiators, as well as a transmission oil pump. Outside the tank are external fuel tanks included in the general fuel system.
