Russia's First Wind Turbine Blade Factory to Launch in Ulyanovsk

Composite wind turbine blades weigh over 7.5 tons and are about 50 meters long

A factory for the production of composite wind turbine blades will start operating in Ulyanovsk by the end of December 2024. The enterprise under the auspices of JSC "Rusatom Wind Blades" (part of the Composite Division of Rosatom State Corporation) will be the first Russian factory of its kind.

The agreement on the opening of production was signed in June 2023 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum by Alexander Tyunin, General Director of the Composite Division of Rosatom State Corporation, Alexey Russkikh, Governor of the Ulyanovsk Region, and Sergey Vasin, General Director of JSC "Corporation for the Development of the Ulyanovsk Region."

Composite wind turbine blades weighing more than 7.5 tons and about 50 meters long will be produced at the former site of the Danish manufacturer Vestas, which left Russia in 2022. The production capacity of the workshop after the restart is designed to produce 450 blades per year at maximum load, which the company will reach by February 2025.

The company will provide the region with more than 400 new jobs, and investments in the project amount to more than 2 billion rubles. Initially, the level of localization of production will be 85%, and in the future it will be brought to 100%.
