Rare examples of the 100-mm 2A29 "Rapira" anti-tank gun on the chassis of the lightly armored MT-LB "Motolyga" tracked tractor have been spotted at the front. However, the system has a number of shortcomings, which were revealed by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
According to him, one can note the small angles of vertical guidance and the extremely high "mobility" of the gun when firing.
Due to the close proximity of the barrel cut to the ground surface and the powerful projectile, after a shot, the gun literally "jumps" and bounces far back if it is poorly installed in position. All this is also accompanied by a cloud of dust and fire from the muzzle brake.
However, in general, the MT-12 "Rapira" is famous for its high accuracy in skilled hands, and has received the status of a "sniper rifle" in the ranks of artillery units. In addition, the gun has a low silhouette, about 1.6 m along the upper edge of the shield, which contributes to camouflage.
