Hosting providers may be required to transfer more user information to Roskomnadzor (RKN). The Ministry of Digital Development is initiating the proposal. It is planned to create a special register for new information by 2025.
According to officials' idea, companies will have to provide information to the RKN about the country of issue of documents of individual clients, as well as data on legal entities using their services. This information will only be requested in case of suspicious activity in the network.
The draft resolution is published on the regulation.gov.ru portal. It proposes to supplement the Roskomnadzor register with information on the performance and computing power of the infrastructure of hosting providers, as well as data on the persons to whom these resources are provided. If the resolution is adopted, it will enter into force on January 1, 2025.
Hosting providers fear that this initiative will affect the security of their clients. The fact is that many of them want to maintain confidentiality in order to avoid cyberattacks.
