Total turnover decreased by 5.8% compared to the same period last year

The management of Russian Railways (RZD) reported a significant decrease in loading in November 2024, which amounted to 95.6 million tons. This is 5.8% less than in the same month last year. For the period from January to November 2024, loading amounted to 1 billion 82.1 million tons, which is also 4.4% lower than in 2023.

Freight turnover for the same period decreased by 5.2%, amounting to 2.301 trillion tariff ton-km. If we take into account the mileage of wagons in empty condition, freight turnover decreased by 5.8% and amounted to 2.84 trillion ton-km.

Loaded in November:

  • Coal — 301.3 million tons (-6.2%).
  • Coke — 10.9 million tons (+2.9%)
  • Oil and oil products — 189.5 million tons (-1.1%).
  •  Iron and manganese ore — 99.7 million tons (-2%).
  • Ferrous metals — 56.1 million tons (-9.9%).
  • Ferrous metal scrap — 10.4 million tons (-19.4%).
  • Chemical and mineral fertilizers — 61.7 million tons (+6.2%).
  • Cement — 22 million tons (-4.7%).
  • Timber — 24.1 million tons (-1.7%).
  • Grain — 28.5 million tons (-3.3%).
  •  Construction cargo — 104.2 million tons (-14.4%).
  • Non-ferrous ore and sulfur raw materials — 15 million tons (-8.6%).
  • Chemicals and soda — 19.3 million tons (-2.9%).
  • Industrial raw materials and molding materials — 30 million tons (+1.3%).
  • Other cargo — 109.6 million tons (+0.9%).

The head of Russian Railways holding, Oleg Belozerov, previously predicted a decrease in loading on the holding's network by almost 4% by the end of 2024. However, Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Alexey Shilo expressed hope for an increase in loading next year.
