TOW/-2 missile systems will become a new threat to tanks: how Russia can protect its armored vehicles

Expert names tactics for protecting Russian tanks from the latest TOW/-2 missile systems

Modernized anti-tank missiles of the BGM-71A line of TOW/-2 missile systems may appear on the front. Most modifications of these ATGMs are equipped with a jam-resistant wired control channel, similar to that used on the Fagot and Konkurs/-M ATGMs. The range of all versions of the ATGM is no more than 3750 m.

TOW-2B Aero-RF and TOW-2N modifications have semi-automatic millimeter-wave radio command guidance. One of the most dangerous modifications for modern armored vehicles remains the BGM-71F with a warhead of the "impact core" type oriented 90 degrees down from the longitudinal axis of the ATGM.

To counter these ATGMs, all domestic armored vehicles must be equipped with Arena-M active protection systems. However, due to the complex terrain and buildings, as well as the inability to fire from closed firing positions, TOW-2B systems installed on M2A2 ODS-SA Bradley IFVs proved to be ineffective.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Aeroflot will be the first in Russia to take aircraft on a "wet" lease.
