A fire broke out on the icebreaker "Admiral Makarov" in the port of St. Petersburg. The North-Western Transport Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into this fact, according to the Telegram channel of the department.

The prosecutor's office did not give the exact name of the vessel, but the text of the message includes a photograph showing the "Admiral Makarov".

According to preliminary information, on November 26, a fire occurred on a non-operational icebreaker during repair work. There were no casualties.

The press service added that the fire was quickly extinguished, and the vessel is at the pier in the Big Port of St. Petersburg.

"Admiral Makarov" is a polar diesel icebreaker of project P-1039. It was built by order of "Sudoimport" at the Helsinki shipyard "Wärtsilä" in 1975. This is the second of three icebreakers in the series built by order of the Soviet Union by Finland — the other two are "Yermak" (1974) and "Krasin" (1976).
