During the repair campaign on the Trans-Siberian Railway in the Irkutsk region, Russian Railways (RZD) successfully tested the "virtual coupling" technology. This was reported by the press service of the East Siberian Railway (ESR, a branch of RZD).
In August-October, on a 496 km section from Nizhneudinsk to Irkutsk-Sortirovochny station, the use of "virtual coupling" was successfully tested under repair conditions, when traffic is carried out in both directions on one track. Trains covered this distance with a headway between trains of 7-8 minutes.
The new technology allows reducing the interval of following in the same direction due to the automated control of the locomotive system. A noise-protected radio channel is provided for the exchange of information between trains.
Earlier www1.ru reported that RZD showed the interior of a high-speed train.
