In 2025, Russia will begin mass production of unusual BAZ trucks — heavy vehicles that should replace specialized Tatras. All components and assemblies of the vehicles will be entirely of Russian and Belarusian production.
The YaMZ 653.1 is used as the main engine, but with an improved turbine. It is also possible to install a more powerful YaMZ 770 engine with a capacity of 500 hp in combination with a YaMZ 2415 gearbox. This allows the BAZ to be used as an airfield fire truck capable of speeds up to 130 km/h. In the standard version, the estimated speed is from 90 to 110 km/h.
Alternatively, customers may be offered Chinese Weichai WP12 and WP6 engines.
It is planned to produce approximately 2000 BAZ vehicles per year. With this volume of production, the manufacture of original molds is unprofitable, so the cabin is made in the form of a fiberglass frame. According to the developers, this material can withstand temperatures down to -60 °C.
As a reminder, this fundamentally new Russian car has a completely independent spring suspension. Depending on the selected configuration, it will be possible to install a different number of axles and wheelbases. The rear axle is steerable. There is not a single part of Chinese production in the design, with the possible exception of some electronic components.
