The opening of a special economic zone (SEZ) in the vicinity of Yekaterinburg, where Chinese and domestic companies will be able to assemble household appliances and cars, has been postponed.
The project was announced by the director of the "Yekaterinburg Transport Terminal," Alexander Kakhidze, in November 2023. He stated that it was planned to start localizing production, starting with a small share, and gradually increasing localization to 50-70%. The possibility of transferring taxes to the region was also discussed.
However, as of November 2024, the project has not yet been implemented. Kakhidze explained the delay by changes in legislation and other factors.
The businessman reported that the company is working on buying out a land plot and additional territory for the creation of the SEZ, but he found it difficult to name the exact dates for the opening of the zone, indicating that the project will continue, but the terms may change in conditions of economic instability.
