Lovozersky Mining and Processing Plant (GOK, part of the Rosatom State Corporation) has started designing new workings on the southwestern flank of the Karnasurt mine in the Murmansk region, the corporation's press service reported.
More than 20 new treatment blocks will be designed and developed on the southwestern flank of our Karnasurt mine. According to geologists' estimates, the site's reserves amount to 5.2 million tons of ore
According to Fedyakov, the reserves of this site will allow maintaining the current level of ore extraction until work at the lower horizons of the mine. At the same time, mining operations will begin in 2025, and ore extraction itself in 2026. In addition, specialists will design more than 40 km of mine workings, which will begin to be developed by 2030.
The Karnasurt mine is located on the shore of Lake Ilma, 5 km south of the village of Revda. Loparite ore is mined here, which is a raw material for the production of tantalum, niobium, titanium and other metals.
Lovozersky GOK is the only enterprise in the country for loparite mining. It ensures Russia's strategic raw material sovereignty.
