A new river hydrographic detachment of the Dnieper Flotilla and a new Azov hydrographic section have been formed as part of the Black Sea Fleet.
Izvestia writes about this, citing a source in the Ministry of Defense. It is noted that the new detachment will be responsible for the safety of navigation, depth measurement, riverbed research, development of a system of navigational equipment on the banks, and the creation of electronic navigation charts. It will record changes in the fairway on the Dnieper after the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station and carry out other work.
The Hydrographic Service of the Navy, to which the new detachment belongs, helps the Navy and other branches of the Russian Armed Forces in the oceanic strategic areas and maritime zones. It solves a number of tasks for navigational, hydrographic, hydrometeorological and geodetic support of the Navy forces.
In addition, the hydrographic service is engaged in the maintenance and development of a system of navigational equipment on the coast and in the sea waters under the jurisdiction of Russia in the interests of the country's defense and navigational and hydrographic support of Russia's maritime activities. Its areas of activity do not include only the routes of the Northern Sea Route.
