Concrete based on coffee grounds has been created at the Don State University (DSTU). The development will improve the quality of cement and reduce its consumption by 10%.
To create the new material, scientists heated coffee grounds to 400 °C. The resulting mass was crushed and porous biochar was obtained. It was added to the concrete mix, replacing part of the cement.
The resulting concrete has high physical and mechanical characteristics and a high-quality structure. It can be used in building structures for residential, civil and social purposes.
The developers plan to study the durability characteristics of coffee grounds concrete. In the future, scientists will conduct experimental studies of the frost resistance and water resistance of the new material.
Earlier www1.ru reported that polymers for UAVs and aircraft were created in Moscow.
