Goodbye, iPhone: Russian Ministers and Civil Servants Are Banned from Expensive Smartphones and Laptops

Restrictions are imposed at the level of the Cabinet of Ministers, including monthly communication expenses

The Russian government is introducing restrictions on the cost of smartphones, laptops, and tablets for civil servants and will cut spending on their material and technical support. This was reported by the Interfax news agency, citing the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers.

According to the new rules:

  • Heads of ministries are entitled to one mobile phone costing no more than 26.8 thousand rubles with monthly communication expenses of no more than 7.1 thousand rubles;
  • Advisors and assistants to the head are entitled to one mobile phone costing no more than 17.9 thousand rubles with communication expenses of no more than 3.6 thousand rubles per month.
These relatively low prices for phones are due to the fact that they are usually purchased in bulk.

Also, heads of ministries will be able to have one laptop costing no more than 130.3 thousand rubles with monthly communication expenses of no more than 5.2 thousand rubles.

Advisors and assistants to the heads will have a slightly larger choice of equipment. They are allowed to have either a tablet computer costing no more than 65.1 thousand rubles with monthly communication expenses of 3.6 thousand rubles, or a laptop. The laptop for assistants and advisors should cost no more than 104.2 thousand rubles with monthly communication expenses of 2.6 thousand rubles.

Earlier, it became known that government purchases of iPhones for Russian officials increased 4 times in 2024. In the top of popular for government purchases from officials, in addition to "apples" - Samsung, as well as Chinese Realme and Xiaomi.
