Indian authorities plan to support the construction of up to 50 small nuclear reactors through public-private partnerships. This means that India is entering the global race for nuclear technology and will try to catch up with Russia, the United States, and China, according to the Eurasian Times.
Russia has developed unique nuclear technologies by building the 70 MW Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear power plant (FNPP). It is the first and only floating nuclear power plant in the world. It was commissioned in May 2020 in Chukotka.
Rosatom pays great attention to the development of small nuclear reactors, considering them key elements of Russia's nuclear energy development strategy until 2050. The corporation has a large portfolio of projects, including orders for RITM reactors and Shelf-M reactors for autonomous installations.
