Легендарный «шеснарь». АвтоВАЗ выпустил 5-миллионный экземпляр 16-клапанного двигателя

The assembly line that produces the famous engines is more than 30 years old

AvtoVAZ has produced the 5-millionth car with a 16-valve engine. Sergey Kulkov, Head of Engine and Power Unit Production, notes that the assembly line that produces the famous "16-valve" engines has been operating for over 30 years. However, it is highly automated: 43% of operations are performed without operator intervention.

These five million engines include various engines, including the 1.5-liter for the Lada 110, the 1.4-liter for the Lada Kalina, and the 1.6-liter used in the Priora, Granta, Vesta, and Largus. The production also includes the 1.6-liter 106-horsepower version of the four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine.

The production process is constantly being improved. Recent innovations include the application of sealants by robots and the introduction of "smart" torque wrenches. The logistics process has also been optimized. For example, when parts run out, an automatic trolley drives up to the operator.

Engines with 16 valves usually provide a smoother power transfer. Power increases almost proportionally to the engine speed. The VAZ "16-valve" engine is an optimal option for installation under the hood of "Zhiguli" or "Niva" cars, as it is perfectly compatible with the "classic" gearbox.

Earlier, Russian developers showed a 3D model of an explosion-proof electric motor used in mechanical engineering. According to the manufacturer, it has 100% localization in Russia.
