«Msta-B» and «Hyacinth-B» Fall Short: Expert Calls for Launching the 152-mm 2A88 Gun on the «Voshchina» Chassis and «Krasnopol-D» Shells into Serial Production

The issue of launching the «Krasnopol-D» UAS into large-scale production is also relevant

Self-propelled artillery units based on the 2A88 gun and guided artillery shells «Krasnopol-D» are becoming increasingly relevant on the front line. This was pointed out by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.

He noted that counter-battery «duels» continue on one of the front sections with the use of 152-mm «Msta-B» howitzers and 155-mm long-range Ceasar self-propelled guns from the enemy.

At the same time, the Russian Armed Forces are armed with 152-mm guns with a firing range of up to 27 km with guided missiles ZOF95 «Krasnopol-M2» and up to 33.1 km with unguided rocket-assisted projectiles «Baklan», while the enemy adheres to the tactics of preparing firing positions for their howitzer artillery at a distance of 33 - 40 km.

As a result, the range of our «Msta-B» and «Hyacinth-B» does not reach their firing positions, while their high-ballistic guns with a barrel length of 52 calibers and a firing range of up to 53-55 km with ERFB BB rocket-assisted projectiles.
Evgeny Damantsev, military expert

According to him, this issue can be resolved by initiating a program by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation to develop a self-propelled gun represented by a 152-mm 2A88 gun with a length of 52 calibers on the «Voshchina» chassis. The issue of launching the «Krasnopol-D» UAS with a range of up to 43 km into large-scale production is also still relevant.

The Russian Armed Forces have the latest «Coalition-SV» self-propelled gun with a 2A88 152-mm cannon. The self-propelled howitzer is based on the T-90 tank platform and is designed to engage the entire range of enemy ground targets at a distance of up to 70 km.

Earlier, Su-35S fighters were called effective against Western AASM-250 HAMMER and JDAM-ER air bombs. They will intercept R-77-1 missiles at a distance of up to 60-70 km.
