Roskomnadzor does not plan to introduce restrictive measures against the Steam platform in Russia, representatives of the department told the Vedomosti newspaper. Despite the addition of some Steam community pages to the unified register of prohibited resources, the platform itself will continue to operate.
According to the department, in most cases Steam has complied with the requirements of Roskomnadzor, removing about 250 materials, but there are still 10 pages that need to be removed.
According to Law No. 149-FZ "On Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection", including a link in the register of prohibited information does not mean automatic blocking of an Internet page. Instead, the resource owner and hosting provider are sent a request to remove it.
Earlier, on October 8, three pages on the Steam community website were added to the register of prohibited resources, but the reasons for the blocking were not specified. This is not the first time that Steam has come into the view of Roskomnadzor. In February 2023, the platform was added to the register of prohibited sites, but it did not come to an actual blocking, as in the previous incident in 2015, related to the dissemination of information about narcotic drugs.
