According to Roscosmos, Novikom now provides reliable communication at the strategic facility. Its RECOM optical relay system is part of the technological and public address communication system of the heavy-class space rocket complex launch complex at Vostochny.
RECOM became the first such Russian development, and completely replaced all foreign analogues that had previously been used at Vostochny. According to Roscosmos, the new equipment serves up to 24 repeaters (signal repeaters), and in these parameters it surpasses foreign predecessors.
The first major test of RECOM was the spring launch of the heavy-lift Angara-A5 rocket. However, the system
allows for reliable communication not only on all levels of the cosmodrome, but also at other facilities with poor radio signal penetration. For example, these are multi-tiered offshore platforms or subway tunnels.
Novikom has already announced plans to improve the system. In particular, it is planned to increase the transmission range of the TETRA standard radio signal over an optical cable between the master node and the remote repeater to more than 20 km from the base station. Currently, in world practice, the transmission of such a signal is common for 2-3 km.
