Employees of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology have created a technology that makes it possible to detect voids and cracks in asphalt without damaging it. The analysis is carried out using radio waves, rather than by taking physical samples.
The development is in the process of being patented in Russia.
According to experts, the request to develop such a system came from China. Stepan Andreev, Head of the Radio Photonics Department at MIPT, noted that there is no such technology in the PRC, although it is not used in practice in Russia either.
In our country, the condition of the road surface is still checked using the core drilling method. Even minor damage to asphalt, such as cracks or chips, can cause more serious problems, including cracking and subsidence.
Earlier in Kazan, a program was created to isolate the properties of multicomponent materials. The development can be applied in the scientific and industrial fields.
