IKI RAN Refutes Reports of a Strong Magnetic Storm on Earth on September 27

The probability of its occurrence is only 10%

Sergey Bogachev, Head of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy and Heliophysical Instrument Engineering of the Department of Space Plasma Physics at IKI RAN, refuted information about the alleged strong magnetic storm on September 27. The probability of its occurrence is only 10%.

According to him, in recent days, the Earth has indeed been exposed to a fast solar wind, which caused minor geomagnetic disturbances, but no major events are expected.

Bogachev noted that the situation on the Sun remains calm, and the solar wind has almost returned to normal speed values. He emphasized that reports of a strong magnetic storm, which spread in some media, are unreliable. The website of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy also indicates that the probability of a strong geomagnetic storm is only 1%.
