The planned modernization of the strategic device at the Sobolev Institute of Mathematics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IM SB RAS) was carried out by specialists from the RSC Group. The performance of "Sergey Godunov" has now almost doubled.
At the time of the supercomputer launch in February 2024, it was 54.4 teraflops (trillions of operations per second). Now, after the upgrade, its total peak performance is 114.67 teraflops — of which 75.87 teraflops are on central processors and 38.8 teraflops are on graphics accelerators.
According to IM SB RAS, the upgrade of "Sergey Godunov" will allow solving more accurate and extensive multidisciplinary tasks, modeling volumetric processes and predicting the behavior of complex mathematical systems. This supercomputer performs calculations on problems and tasks that are critical for Russia, in particular:
- construction of baric axial algebras and Grayce algebra;
- optimization of parameters of mathematical models of turbulent flows with conjugate heat transfer based on deep learning technologies and nature-like algorithms;
- wave medical tomography;
- modeling of epidemiological, environmental, economic and social processes;
- modeling and construction of scenarios for the development of the biosphere-economy-society system, taking into account carbon-free and sustainable development and climate change;
- solving inverse problems of geophysics by the direct method based on the Gelfand-Levitan-Krein approach.
Supercomputer "Sergey Godunov"
This is the main tool for conducting research and applied development in the Novosibirsk Academgorodok and creating a technological platform under the auspices of the Scientific Council of the Department of Mathematical Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences on mathematical modeling of the spread of epidemics, taking into account social, economic and environmental processes.
The domestic supercomputer is named after the famous Soviet and Russian mathematician with a worldwide reputation, Sergei Konstantinovich Godunov. It operates on the basis of the high-density and energy-efficient "RSC Tornado" platform with liquid cooling.
The high-performance system of IM SB RAS is built on the basis of computing nodes, each of which is equipped with two Intel Xeon Scalable family processors. It is also known that the supercomputer includes a node based on 4 NVidia A100 graphics processors and a visualization server with large memory (Intel Xeon Platinum 8368 processors, 4 TB of RAM, 2 NVIDIA RTX 5000 Ada graphics cards, 32 GB GDDR6).
