The Vityaz vehicle, equipped with the Volnorez electronic warfare (EW) system, is being developed for reconnaissance groups and special forces soldiers of the Russian Armed Forces operating on the front lines. This is stated in an article by the specialized publication Army Recognition «How the Russian Vityaz car revolutionized electronic warfare against FPV drones».
The publication refers to the words of the General Director of the Vityaz developer, Argo LLC, Konstantin Bagdasarov.
When creating the Vityaz project, we strived to create a light and maneuverable vehicle that would have a powerful diesel engine and would be protected by an effective modular electronic warfare system such as Volnorez, for our special units. Today, the first prototype of the car is almost assembled.
The car received the chassis of the Soviet serial UAZ-469, but instead of a gasoline engine, a diesel engine with a capacity of about 100 hp was installed under the hood. and a torque of about 250 Nm at 1600 rpm. The car can be armed with anti-aircraft machine gun mounts paired with a large-caliber Vladimirov tank machine gun (KPVT).
It is expected that vehicle testing will begin at the training ground in the near future. The developers will check the laid down characteristics and the operation of the electronic warfare system.
Presumably, the Vityaz, equipped with the Volnorez electronic warfare system, will be presented at the Argo exhibition as part of the Army-2024 military-technical forum.
The Volnorez electronic warfare system was first shown at the Army-2023 forum. It is a small-sized cone (length - 484 mm, weight - 13 kg), which is installed using magnetic «velcro» on any military (tanks, armored personnel carriers, boats) and civilian equipment.
The main feature of this complex is its modularity. Volnorez is quickly configured for new frequencies to suppress enemy FPV drones.
