AGR Company, which owns the former Hyundai plant located in St. Petersburg, has begun test assembly of GAC GS3 and GS8 crossovers. This is reported by insiders. However, there is no official confirmation of this information.
According to insiders, the decision may be related to the small production volumes of Solaris brand cars (renamed Kia and Hyundai), of which just over 10 thousand units were assembled from February to June this year. It is likely that this is why AGR Company is concerned about finding a new business partner.
The representative office of the Chinese automaker in Russia planned to expand the model range and further develop the dealer network. Cooperation with AGR may give the company an advantage over those Chinese brands that do not assemble in the Russian Federation, but import from abroad, especially against the background of the authorities' plans to increase the recycling fee in the country.
In total, 8857 new GAC cars were sold in Russia from January to July this year.
