Pilots of Su-35S and Su-30SM2 fighters will be able to use R-37M and R-77-1 air-to-air missiles in jamming homing mode in a potential air combat with American aircraft with F-16AM/C Block 52+. This was written by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
According to him, F-16 aircraft are most likely to be equipped with AIM-120D missiles, which have high flight performance at a distance of up to 160 km. Therefore, the main task of Russian pilots will be to destroy enemy aircraft with the very first missiles launched at a distance of 220 - 190 km before the F-16 reaches the effective range of the AIM-120D.
If the enemy carries out an anti-missile maneuver and evades the R-37M, then parity will be established between him and the Su-35S and Su-30SM2 fighters in long-range air combat, Damantsev emphasized.
Active radar homing heads 9B-1103M-350 developed by JSC Research Institute "Agat" of R-37M missiles, as well as active-passive radar homing heads 9B-1103M-200PS of R-77-1 missiles are capable of detecting the coordinates of electronic warfare systems and airborne radars AN/APG-66(V)2 of F-16 fighters operating on radiation, intercepting them in jamming homing mode.
