KMZ repaired M520 engines of Russian border guard patrol ships

The holding's employees completely overhauled 2 diesel engines

Employees of the Kinisepp Machine-Building Plant (KMZ) military-industrial holding carried out a major overhaul of the M520 diesel engine, which is installed on border patrol ships. The work was carried out under a state contract, the holding's press service reported.

KMZ fulfilled its obligations to repair two M520 engines, taking part in ensuring the technical readiness of the ship to perform important state tasks.

The KMZ press service explained that the M520 diesel engine (manufactured by PJSC Zvezda) belongs to the ChNSP16/17 type. These are light, high-speed 56-cylinder four-stroke water-cooled engines with gas turbine supercharging. Its cylinder diameter is 160 mm, and the piston stroke is 170 mm.

Coast guard ships are designed to serve in the border zone. Their crew controls the Russian state border, as well as compliance by ships of other countries with the economic zone of the Russian Federation. In addition, security forces on such ships protect civilian ships from saboteurs and terrorists, and repel enemy attacks from the air and submarines.
