Friend or Foe: Russia Develops Drone Tracking System Based on ERA-GLONASS

It has already been successfully tested in Sakhalin

During each drone's flight, its digital twin is displayed on the screen with information about the model, characteristics, owner, and flight permission. UAVs with Russian-made mini-trackers were connected to the state information system during testing. Data from ERA-GLONASS was transmitted to the situation center at the Pushisty airfield and to two commercial platforms.

The system, among other things, allows identifying UAVs and confirming their routes for all interested departments. Testing and a demonstration during the Archipelago-2024 educational intensive were successful.

The Ministry of Transport notes that the domestic development will help the development of unmanned technology in Russia, and "creates prerequisites" for lifting the ban on civil unmanned aviation flights in more than 70 regions of the country.

Currently, only 2% of Russia's territory is open for unmanned aviation. The new solution will increase the geography of flights to 30% in the next year and to the entire territory of the Russian Federation in the next 2-3 years through the use of Russian satellite communication channels. The solution will be available to all regions of Russia through the Federal Navigation and Information System, becoming a new standard cloud module on the unified digital platform GOSTECH, free for the constituent entities of the Russian Federation.

It is assumed that such a phased lifting of restrictions will accelerate the development of the industry and the introduction of drones into the Russian economy.

Earlier, Innopolis drones faced the problem of determining "friend or foe" and countering the electronic warfare equipment of Russian factories. They cannot deliver goods within the framework of the new EPR, and the factories cannot turn off the jammers for their own safety.
