Cars of the Chinese company Chery will be produced in Russia at three technological sites. In addition to the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg, where XCITE X-Cross 7 cars are assembled (renamed Chery Tiggo 7 Pro), car production will be established at the former Volkswagen plant in Kaluga and at the former Mercedes-Benz plant in Yesipovo, where Exeed crossovers (Chery sub-brand) will be assembled. Insiders report that management is currently looking for additional staff.
At the same time, the plant in Kaluga, which should begin full-scale car production in August, has not even called workers out of downtime. It seems that the company is currently working out some operations in test mode.
It is not even clear how many people are needed to assemble Chery and how much time it will take to retrain.
Note that, according to insiders, the cars will be assembled by large-unit method at two enterprises. This work has already been established at the plant in St. Petersburg.
We are talking about the so-called knock-down assembly, when finished car kits are brought to the plant from China. There, the engine and chassis, as well as attachments, are installed on the assembled body.
