Tired? — Slow Down!: Scooter Riders in Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus to be Tested for Reaction Speed

Cognitive functions will be tested selectively, and those who fail the test will have their speed reduced

The electric scooter rental service Whoosh is launching a new safety procedure. Users of personal mobility devices (PMD) will be tested for attentiveness and reaction speed. This was reported in the company's press service.

It was decided to use the Schulte and Stroop tests to assess directed attention skills. The PMD driver will take them before starting the trip; tasks for users have appeared in the Whoosh application.

This is a short test in which you need to arrange numbers in order, choose the correct word, determine the color, etc. If you refuse it or make many mistakes, then for safety, the maximum speed will be reduced to 15 km/h.

Completing the task takes no more than a minute. If you refuse to take the test — the speed of the rented scooter will be automatically limited.

Cognitive abilities of PMD drivers will be checked selectively. This is planned to be done in crowded places both during the day and in the evening.

The innovation is already operating in Whoosh's cities of presence in Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus.

It is worth noting that recently the country's authorities have become seriously concerned about improving the driving culture of PMD drivers. Kicksharing services are conducting free events to teach electric scooter users the rules of the road, and Yandex recently created a school to teach PMD driving.
