Eastern Operating Domain to Be Modernized: Railway Line Reinforced with "Ermak" Electric Locomotives

Two-section electric locomotives will be replaced with four-section models by 2035

New four-section 4ES5K "Ermak" electric locomotives continue to arrive at the Eastern Operating Domain to increase the cargo traffic of eastern ports. This was reported by the press service of "LocoTech-Service" company.

The 4ES5K series "Ermak" electric locomotive can transport trains weighing more than 8 thousand tons. It was created at the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant. Its design took into account the features of the complex track profile of the Far Eastern Railway (DVR).

Four-section machines have higher power compared to their predecessors due to improved electrical equipment and a microprocessor control system. Electric locomotives undergo maintenance in the scope of TO-2 and current repairs in the scope of TR-50, TR-250 and TR-500.

It is worth noting that two-section electric locomotives used to run on the Eastern Operating Domain. But with a steep slope of the track, it was necessary to assemble four-section ones from them. Two sections were cut off from the possibility of repairing malfunctions during movement. This became the reason for replacing two-section electric locomotives with four-section analogues.

The reinforced four-section "Ermak" copes with difficult terrain. Two-section locomotives also remain in demand: they are moved to areas with a gentler terrain.

The complete replacement of two-section models with four-section models will be carried out by 2035. Next year, another 37 units of 4ES5K "Ermak" will appear on the Eastern Operating Domain.
