Scientists from the North Caucasus Federal University (NCFU) have created a drone with a capsule system for rapid localization and extinguishing of fires. The development has already been patented, according to Rabazan Magomedov, Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology and Technosphere Safety at NCFU.
The new model will be equipped with a pneumatic-mechanical fire extinguishing device. It will be triggered as soon as the drone detects a fire. A built-in camera and thermal imager will help it with this.
It finds a fire and starts to localize it. If it fails, it can notify other UAVs that are patrolling in neighboring territories.
The authors of the idea plan to use several drones at once during the fire season. Each of them will be able to monitor areas of 10 hectares in size for the occurrence of fire. If the device cannot cope with extinguishing the fire on its own, it will be able to contact other drones using a swarm method.
It is planned that the fire will be extinguished with capsules containing a special substance and a detonator. When it hits the source of ignition, an explosion will occur. Under high pressure, oxygen will be squeezed out, and the fire will go out.
The scientists plan to develop a functional model and the capsules themselves. In the future, experts will conduct tests in practice.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Russian forest fires will be extinguished by thousands of drones.
