A system for paying for suburban train tickets from a smartphone using geolocation is being tested on the Kaliningrad-Yuzhny — Zelenogradsk-Novy route. This was reported by the press service of the company "Russian Railways" (RZD).
How the new service works:
- The "Protransport+" application is installed on a smartphone
- The passenger's geolocation is determined using Bluetooth beacons at stations
- The passenger marks the beginning and end of the route, and the system calculates the fare
- Funds are automatically debited from the customer's card linked to the application
- The ticket arrives as a QR code along with a receipt, which can be opened on a smartphone
In the future, it is planned to make the "smart payment" system common for all suburban electric train routes and urban ground transport. This will make it possible to create seamless multimodal trips at a single tariff.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that a guide was added to the "RZD Passengers" mobile application.
